Pak Amar has explained some  case studies (Indonesian companies) that have been taken as subject for end-year-project by his previous undergraduate or graduate students. Mostly evaluated VRP (vehicle routing problems) and suggested improvement by reducing number of transportation facilities to achieve optimal logistics/distribution cost.

Transportation mode should be planned carefully.

Alternatives: By rail (train), or truck, or water (ship), or pipe (e.g. gasoline), or air, or combinations.
– Trailer on Flatcar (TOFC) = piggyback
– Container on Flatcar (COFC) = chasis trailer
– etc.

At the end, chosen transportation mode would be used to determine tariff.

Kelas Pak Amar ini adalah mata kuliah pilihan di Semester 2. Pesertanya cukup banyak, 28 orang dari keseluruhan 35 orang mahasiswa S2 Teknik Industri UI’08 (kelas Salemba).

Dalam kuliah perdana ini, kami mengulang definisi “logistik” dan “manajemen rantai suplai” beserta skema dan proses-prosesnya yang sudah diberikan melalui kuliah Manajemen Operasi di Semester 1.

Secara singkat disimpulkan bahwa logistik atau rantai suplai bertujuan menempatkan barang/jasa yang tepat, pada waktu yang tepat dan sesuai dengan kondisi yang diinginkan pada biaya yang rendah dan ROI yang tinggi.
