An organization has two kinds of work process: OPERATIONS (things done on routine) and PROJECTS (by temporary task force).

Kelas pilihan yang ini pesertanya hanya 16 orang. Untuk S2 Teknik Industri UI’08 (kelas Salemba), kelas ini paling sedikit pesertanya dibandingkan dengan yang lain (Marketing = 31 orang, Logistik/Transportasi = 28 orang, Manufaktur = 30 orang).

Tapi ternyata seusai kuliah MIS (yang dosennya juga Pak Dachyar), banyak juga teman-teman yang sit-in mendengarkan pengajaran beliau yang sangat menarik mengenai Project Management.

Main factors in project management: TIME, COST, RESOURCES. These are things should be managed to fulfil customer’s expectation.

Each process should be improved through project management. Better process => less waste => successful implementation => high profit => good company.

Note that some process can be done in parralel instead of serial but still focus on eliminate failure (zero defect in manufacturing, or zero complaints in service industry). Processes should be review by using MIS to increase its effectiveness.

Conventional project management can be improved by concurrent engineering where available documents only consist of guidelines and checklists.

Planning is very important.
